For the second year, the Freedom Forum Diversity Institute in partnership with Black College Wire and Schurz Communications, sponsored a dynamic 10-week program to train 12 college students in multimedia journalism and to dispatch them to paid summer internships. The program was designed to increase newsroom diversity and to provide intensive education and training in new media. The participants spent two weeks in May at the Diversity Institute in Nashville, Tenn. After the training, the students were sent to Schurz newspapers for eight-week internships at daily newspapers. He interned last summer at the Rocky Mount Telegram in Rocky Mount, N.C. He will intern this summer at the South Bend (Ind.) Tribune. Donnell is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and the Society of Black Journalists. She will intern this summer at the Winchester Sun in Winchester, Ky. She is currently enrolled in the Walter H. Annenberg honors program, where she served as the corresponding secretary. She will intern this summer at the South Bend (Ind.) Tribune. She spent four weeks in Cagli, Italy in 2007 as an intern for the Institute for Education in International Media. She will intern this summer at the Daily American in Somerset, Pa. Knight has served as the lead writer for the Grambling Sports Radio Network and a media relations assistant for the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl. He will intern this summer at the Herald-Times in Bloomington, Ind. She is the recording secretary of the university's chapter of NABJ. She plans to one day own a magazine dedicated toward young African American interests. She will intern this summer at the Sun, in Winchester, Ky. He has also served as the editor of M-Magazine South African edition as well as program director for KLPI-Lousiana Tech University. He will intern this summer at the Herald-Times in Bloomington, Ind. She has volunteered with Howard University's Alternative Spring Break program in New Orleans, LA. She will intern this summer at the South Bend (Ind.) Tribune. She was awarded the Florida A&M University School of Journalism and Graphic Communication Scholarship. She will intern this summer at the Herald-Mail in Hagerstown, Md. She is a member of Lambda Pi Eta, national communications honor society, National Society of Collegiate Scholars and Sigma Tau Theta Mass Communications Fraternity Inc. She served as the news editor for The Panther student newspaper. She will intern this summer at the Daily American in Somerset, Pa. She has served as an editorial intern for the AZ Business Magazine in Phoenix, Ariz. She speaks conversational Spanish and Portuguese. She will intern this summer at the Herald-Mail in Hagerstown, Md. White formerly served as the sports editor for the paper as well as an assistant for the university's radio-a-thon. He will intern this summer at the Advocate-Messenger in Danville, Ky. |
