Reaves, 18, from Perry, was taken into custody June 11 and was released on bond the same day, said investigator Donna Lee. Reaves, who also served as freshman class president, is scheduled to appear in court July 16 to hear all charges brought against him, according to his Attorney Robert Morris.

Reaves would not comment on the charges, but Morris said the allegations are “serious and significant” that may “impact (Reaves) present and his future.” The attorney said Reaves had entered a written plea of not guilty.

He said, “Reaves will continue with normal everyday life and continue pursuit of his education and any extracurricular activity.”

According to Florida statue 800.04(4), lewd or lascivious battery is any person who forces or entices a person less than 16-years-old to engage in sadomasochistic abuse, sexual bestiality, prostitution, or any other act involving sexual activity. If convicted a person would be forced to register as a sexual offender in Florida and throughout the United States.

In an Oct. 20, 2008 article in The Famuan, Reaves said his experiences as class president for three consecutive years while a student at Taylor County High School prepared him for freshmen class president.

"They taught me the proper skills to lead," he said. "I like to build on previous achievements."

He was president of the National Honor Society and named a Coca Cola, Inc. regional scholar. Reaves said the numerous accolades he received should be attributed to his parents, grandparents and siblings.
