Black College Wire Internships

The Black College Wire 2006 Summer Internship Program offers training and paid summer internships to college students or recent graduates of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Interns will earn $1,500 or more (final amount may be higher) while working for the Black College Wire, black newspapers or online publications.

Summer interns commit to working a minimum of 20 hours a week for 10 weeks, completing the training institute and writing at least one article for the Black College Wire. It is not possible to be in this internship and hold a full-time or competing job or internship.

College sophomores, juniors, seniors or graduates (within the past year) are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to those with career goals in print and online journalism; campus newspaper or radio/broadcast experience is recommended. Interns are responsible for their own housing and transportation. Placements will be close to the intern's home or college, or summer living arrangement.

Training

Successful applicants will attend an expensepaid four-day training and orientation session in late May at The Freedom Forum Diversity Institute at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.

2. Resume.

3. Academic transcripts (unofficial acceptable).

4. Two letters of recommendation from persons who know your journalism skills.

5. Six samples of your work. Samples cannot be returned.

6. Essay.

7. A head-shot photo of yourself (e.g., passport photo).
