Black College Wire is a news service established to promote the journalistic work of students at predominantly black colleges and universities. The news service reinforces the training that students receive in the skills and principles needed to produce quality journalism. It also provides a regular news report reflecting black college life that is available to campus and other news outlets, and links students to training and employment opportunities in journalism and related fields.

Who is behind Black College Wire?

Who is behind Black College Wire? Black College Wire is a project of the Black College Communication Association. The project is funded by a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, which promotes excellence in journalism worldwide and invests in the vitality of 26 U.S. communities. Black College Wire's administrative partner is the National Association of Black Journalists. The founder and project coordinator is former newspaper editor Pearl Stewart. Black College Wire's editor is veteran journalist Richard Prince, and the internship coordinator is journalism professor Dr. Reginald Owens. Howard University's School of Communications coordinates the audio streaming, and students from Hampton University provide content for First Amendment Watch. Who can contribute stories to Black College Wire?

The primary source of story contributions to Black College Wire is the pool of students writing for newspapers on black college campuses. But story contributions also are accepted from non-journalism students on black college campuses and from other college students and faculty members.
